Happy Birthday, Gwyneth Paltrow!

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: Gwyneth Paltrow is my spirit animal.

Liking Gwyneth Paltrow is like liking that song. You know, that song: it’s always on the radio, it’s always in your face, it’s massively popular, everyone knows it, everyone hates it and no one will admit to having it in their iTunes, even though they all do.  Well, I can’t keep it inside anymore: I LOVE GWYNETH. (But still, shhhh, don’t tell anyone.)Photoshoot49-0005

GP is my guilty pleasure. Criticize her all you want, but she’s still going to be nearly perfect. Seriously, this woman is a powerhouse – a powerhouse that most people, including myself, have yet to truly understand. She’s an actress, a singer, a blogger, a cook, a published author, a mother and probably a bazillion other things she is keeping a secret. She’s a rockstar married to another rockstar. (Her kids call Jay-Z “Uncle Jay”. How cool is that?)

So, on her birthday, I’d like to share three of my favorite things about Gwynnie:

Her name.

All throughout high school, I had an obsession with the name Gwyneth. It seemed so beautiful, so tragic and I wanted it. I also loved the name Blythe, Gwyneth’s mother’s name. And now Apple! Awesome names are in these girls’ genes. I have loved the name Apple ever since Jim Henson’s The Christmas Toy.(D0es anyone else remember Rugby the Tiger?) People didn’t agree with the name choice and I admit, I was one of them, but only because she beat me to it!

Her voice.

I’m not really into the show, but I recorded the episode of Glee with Gwyneth Paltrow. I watched it, downloaded her Cee-Lo cover off  iTunes, and then listened to her song on repeat for days. I couldn’t help myself. Remember her Grammy’s appearance? Ugh, when she belted out ‘Forget You’ on top of that piano? And she totally upstaged Cee-Lo’s Aztecan peacock costume with her heels and earrings alone.

Her blog.

GOOP is in my bookmarks and I check the site every Thursday for updates. My personal favorite is the GO section for restaurant recommendations. When I’m in NYC looking for a new place to eat, I ask myself, “Where would Gwyneth go?” and then I consult GOOP.  I also like the MAKE section, and the DO section… Okay, I just like GOOP.  If it weren’t for Gwyneth’s blog, I wouldn’t own a juicer, I wouldn’t have (unopened) Tracy Anderson DVDs on my living room floor and I most definitely wouldn’t know how to use the word detox correctly in a sentence. If it’s on GOOP, I’m totally down.

Love her or hate her, Gwyneth will be Gwyneth. So, here’s to you, GP! Happy birthday!!
